This Country wins three RTS Awards

The results of the Royal Television Society Awards 2018 have been announced, with This Country stars Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper notably picking up three awards for their BBC Three sitcom.

The comedy-related wins in full are as follows, with the judges comments included:

Scripted Comedy

This Country

The awards jury said of the show: "Authentic, clever and with characters and a setting that felt completely fresh."

Also nominated: Chewing Gum and People Just Do Nothing.

The comment from the judges room, talking about the script: "Was both warm and poignant in a world rarely represented... a brilliantly funny piece".

Also nominated: Michaela Coel for Chewing Gum and Steve Stamp and Allan Mustafa for People Just Do Nothing.

The judges said of their acting: "Charming, endearing and warm...giving this funny show genuine heart."

Also nominated: Tom Davis for Murder In Successville and Michaela Coel for Chewing Gum.

"The genuine warmth, imagination and sense of fun just shines through", said the judges of the trio's presenting.

Also nominated: Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly for I'm A Celebrity...; Claudia Winkleman for Strictly Come Dancing.

The judges commented: "Creating a world that didn't exist before - original, clever and insightful. Clearly we'll see much more of this talent in the future."

The End Of The F***ing World

Talking about the comedy drama, which was first shown on Channel 4 before becoming a much talked about programme on Netflix, the Royal Television Society commented: "Beautifully written and directed, with performances that were through the roof...taking huge creative risks."

Also nominated: Ackley Bridge; The Crown.


The RTS Programme Awards "honour excellence across all genres of television programming and recognise exceptional actors, presenters, writers and production teams, as well as the programmes themselves." The winners were announced at a ceremony tonight (Tuesday 20th March) at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Elsewhere in the awards, Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones picked up the Judges' Award for Black Mirror; Royal drama The Crown was handed the RTS Award of Special Recognition; and BBC One was named Channel Of The Year. For a full list of results visit rts.org.uk
