The Mash Report recommissioned
- BBC Two has ordered a new series of The Mash Report
- The weekly satire will return later in the year
- The topical series has attracted modest TV ratings but has a huge viral reach online
BBC Two's satirical comedy The Mash Report has been recommissioned.
At the end of Series 2 tonight, the channel confirmed that the format will return later in 2018.
Inspired by satirical spoof-news website The Daily Mash, the weekly programme is hosted by Nish Kumar, with Ellie Taylor, Steve N Allen and Rachel Parris joining him in the studio.
Other section contributors, changing week-to-week, include Geoff Norcott as the programme's sole "Conservative voice"; Andrew Hunter Murray as an inept investigative reporter; and American correspondent Desiree Burch.
Mixing comical investigations with spoof news headlines and biting commentary on the week's topics, the second series of The Mash Report has been a huge success for the corporation. Its TV ratings have been modest, but the show has been popular on iPlayer and a number of clips have gone viral on the internet, attracting global attention.
Parris's segments have been particularly popular, with one - addressing an interview with US President Donald Trump, conducted by journalist Piers Morgan - creating much discussion after Morgan publicly complained. Another clip published online has amassed more than 27 million views on Facebook alone, whilst Ellie Taylor's "message from women everywhere" has almost 42 million views on the same platform.
Ellie Taylor is nearing the end of her current tour, This Guy, with limited tickets still available. Rachel Parris is touring Keynote between March and May.
