  • He tweeted: "Was set to do it but ran out of road. Am way behind on scripts / dev elsewhere"
  • However, filming has been completed on new Philomena Cunk series Cunk On Britain

Charlie Brooker has announced that he's too busy to film his planned end-of-year Wipe show.

Charlie Brooker's 2017 Wipe had been commissioned to be broadcast on BBC Two at the end of year, however the star revealed on Twitter that he had taken on too many commitments.

He posted: "Got some good news and bad news. Bad news is no 2017 Wipe. Was set to do it but ran out of road. Am way behind on scripts / [development] elsewhere and contrary to my optimistic delusions it turns out I can't do 400 things at once.

"The good news (or bad news depending on POV) is we've just delivered Cunk On Britain (a 5-part history of our glorious nation starring Philomena) to the BBC, and that will be on *soon*."

Brooker also clarified, "Cunk On Britain covers the WHOLE of British history from the Big Bang to Brexit. In five half-hourly chunks."

He added: "More good news to follow soon. That's it! Now enjoy Christmas / life / Royal Wedding mania."

This will be the first year since 2010 without a Charlie Brooker's Year Wipe episode broadcast.

A BBC spokesperson has confirmed to Den of Geek: "Due to other commitments Charlie Brooker has decided to take a year off from his annual Wipe. Fans won't have to wait too long however for more from Charlie, as Cunk On Britain will be coming to BBC Two in early 2018."

Aside from Cunk On Britain, Brooker has been working on the next series of Black Mirror. Series 4 launches on Netflix this December. The trailer for the first episode, titled Crocodile, was published online yesterday:
