  • Birds Of A Feather will be back for a new special
  • The female-led sitcom last broadcast a 2016 Christmas episode
  • Full details will be revealed next week

Birds Of A Feather is to return for a new Christmas special, British Comedy Guide can confirm.

The commission is expected to be officially announced by ITV in the coming weeks. However, star Lesley Joseph accidentally revealed the news during a television appearance this morning.

Appearing on daytime magazine programme This Morning, the star was pressed by presenter and BOAF fan Rylan Clark-Neal on whether the sitcom would return. A full series was last broadcast in 2015, with an extended-length Christmas special in 2016.

Pushed for an answer as to whether the sitcom would be back, she stumbled a 'yes' in response to a specific query regarding a new Christmas special.

Responding to posts on Twitter noting Joseph's revelation, series co-writer and co-creator Maurice Gran quipped: "Well I could have told you that."

Full details of the new special, and hopes of a full new series, are expected to be confirmed at some point after the Edinburgh International Television Festival, which takes place next week.
