  • Hate Thy Neighbour, the documentary series fronted by stand-up Jamali Maddix, has got a second series
  • Following the success of Series 1, the comedian is filming 10 hour-long episodes for the VICELAND channel
  • Series 2 will see Maddix exploring a divided USA and spending time with extremist groups there

Amongst various commissions announced today by TV channel VICELAND it has been confirmed Hate Thy Neighbour, the documentary series fronted by stand-up Jamali Maddix, will return for a second series.

The format sees the comedian meeting controversial groups across the world.

Talking about Series 2, the channel says: "Once again fusing documentary and stand-up comedy formats, Jamali will explore a divided USA, spending time with organisations, radical individuals and extremist groups who represent voices from the socio-political climate across America - a country rocked by political change and social unrest.

"From new communities fleeing the political establishment in the North, to social and racial inequality in the West, Jamali explores these hostile views and actions in a country rocked by political change and social unrest."

The re-order of Hate Thy Neighbour comes as no surprise. The first series became the channel's most watched show premiere since it launched in the US, and has received praise from both viewers and press.

Jamali Maddix is also the star of Brexit Stage Left, a new VICELAND series mixing stand-up comedy and travel tourism. The show sees Maddix, Fern Brady, Alfie Brown and Sean McLoughlin on tour in comedy clubs around Europe. It is set to start on TV on Wednesday 14th June.

The ten hour long new episodes of Hate Thy Neighbour will be shown on VICELAND later in the year.

The commissions are part of a strategy by the channel to expand its output. It also announced today a documentary series about the housing crisis and a development deal with the founder of web debate show BK Chat. The channel also revealed 'reality sitcom' Bobby And Harriet Get Married.
