Comedy Central signs up Joel Dommett and Nish Kumar
- Stand-up comedians Joel Dommett and Nish Kumar are to work on a number of Comedy Central shows
- They will star in travel-based series Joel And Nish Vs The World, acting as a 'brains and brawn' duo
- The comedians will also feature in new Comedy Central pilot Comedians Solve World Problems
Joel Dommett and Nish Kumar are to appear in a number of Comedy Central series.
Amongst the formats is Joel And Nish Vs The World, a comedic factual series which follows them as they "go on the adventure of a lifetime and immerse themselves in the lives of the strongest, fittest, and toughest people in the world."
The producers explain: "In this funny and often jaw-dropping series the 'brains and brawn' comedy duo go out of their comfort zone and explore the health benefits of a lifestyle based upon ancient wisdom vs the very 'western' lifestyle they are accustomed to.
Joff Powell from format distributors BBC Worldwide says: "We're really excited to have Comedy Central come on board as our UK partner for Joel And Nish Vs The World as we both recognise the potential of bringing together two phenomenal comics in this new funny factual series. Using Mother Nature as a personal trainer, Joel is put through his paces with some of the toughest tribes in the world as Nish unveils the culture of these communities with fun and humour... and gets to laugh at Joel along the way!"
The two comedians will also be the centre of a new pilot commissioned by the channel, Comedians Solve World Problems. The format is planned as a weekly topical show that involves the comedians "entertaining guests on a couch in their flat as they discuss some of the world's biggest problems through a comedic lens."
The shows will be filmed by Rumpus Media, which also makes Romesh Ranganathan's travel series Asian Provocateur. Emily Hudd from the company says: "The joy Joel and Nish take in laughing at each other under duress makes Joel And Nish Vs The World a perfect reflection of their friendship. We're really excited to be tapping into that again with Comedians Solve World Problems, in which they'll take a break from trying to fight the planet and this time try and fix it instead."
Louise Holmes from Comedy Central says: "Joel and Nish are enjoying a meteoric rise to fame on the UK comedy circuit. Their comedic power and genuine chemistry as a likeable, roguish duo, places them in high demand, which is why we're so thrilled to be supporting them in a number of ways."
It was also announced today that Kumar and Dommett's stand-up shows will also feature as part of Comedy Central's newly announced Soho Theatre Live broadcasting partnership. The comedians are also amongst the line-up due to appear on the next series of the network's Stand Up Central format.
It looks set to be a particularly busy time for Kumar, who is also set to front new BBC Two topical comedy series The Mash Report shortly.
The pilot episode of Comedians Solve World Problems will be filmed this June. Meanwhile Joel And Nish Vs The World will air on Comedy Central later this year.
