- The show is being written and directed by Ballot Monkeys creators Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin
- Election Spy starts Tuesday 30th May and will run each weeknight at 10:30pm until after the election
BBC Two is to broadcast Election Spy, a topical comedy series linked to the 2017 General Election.
Filmed on the afternoon of transmission, each episode will "take a comic look behind the scenes at the political parties reacting to the day's themes, rows and catastrophes".
Election Spy has been created by Outnumbered writers Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin.
The writers, who will also direct this new series, are well known for working on satirical comedy shows filmed close to transmission. The duo are perhaps best known for making the hit, multiple award winning 1990s sitcom Drop The Dead Donkey during the 1990s. Their recent comedies have included Ballot Monkeys, which focused on the 2015 General Election, and its follow-up Power Monkeys, which revolved around the EU Referendum in 2016. Whilst those shows were for Channel 4, Election Spy sees the writers moving back to the BBC.
Few details have been revealed about Election Spy at the time of writing, however it is known that each episode will be 5 minutes long and occupy the 10:30pm slot. The series starts on Tuesday 30th May and runs each week night on BBC Two, concluding on Friday 9th June, the day the results are revealed.
