Channel 4's Alternative Election Night is to return for the 2017 General Election.

As the polls close on Thursday 8th June, Jeremy Paxman, David Mitchell and Richard Osman will present a live TV show billed as an "all-night feast of reaction, comment and analysis as the results of this snap election come in".

This will be the third time Channel 4's Alternative Election Night has run, with the network having previously broadcast their comic takes on the results at the past two General Elections, in 2010 and 2015.

Channel 4 says: "Paxman, Mitchell and Osman will be joined by a host of guests in the studio and around the country with their take on the unfolding story. Jeremy will preside over round table debates providing hard-edged commentary on the political story. Richard Osman and David Mitchell will be on hand to provide their own incisively funny interpretation of events, with additional analysis from Channel 4 News presenters Cathy Newman and Gary Gibbon joining in the studio."

The last edition of Channel 4's Alternative Election Night - broadcast in May 2015 - was also hosted by Jeremy Paxman and David Mitchell and featured Richard Osman as a contributor. It was the most watched election night coverage on commercial TV, with a peak audience of 2.4 million at 10pm and an average of 1.1 million across the night (from 9pm to 2am).

Channel 4 has also confirmed today that on the following night, Friday 9th June, The Last Leg will broadcast a live two-hour special.

The network says: "The award-winning Last Leg team will be joined by some special guests from the worlds of comedy, entertainment and politics as they look back on the aftermath of the General Election in their own inimitable way. Adam Hills, Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe will be at the helm for their own brand of satirical comedy as they round up the biggest talking points of the night via the #isitok hashtag."
