Still Game Series 8 confirmed
- BBC One has ordered Still Game Series 8 - six more episodes to be broadcast in 2017
- The recommission comes after strong ratings for Series 7, the show's first series in nine years
- The creators say: "We can't wait to get started on the next batch of adventures with Jack and Victor"
The BBC has confirmed another series of Still Game.
The Scottish sitcom, which returned to screens last year after a break of 9 years, will return to BBC One in 2017 for an eighth series.
The new run will see the core cast - Ford Kiernan, Greg Hemphill, Paul Riley, Jane McCarry, Mark Cox, Sanjeev Kohli and Gavin Mitchell - reprising their roles for another six episodes.
The series will be filming at BBC Scotland's Dumbarton Studios in a purpose-built set across the summer of 2017. As before, scenes will also be filmed on location in and around Glasgow.
The news of a recommission comes as little surprise, as the last series scored strong ratings across the country. In Scotland, Series 7 became the most watched non-sporting programme in over a decade with weekly episodes regularly attracting over half of the total TV watching audience.
Speaking about the new series, co-creator Greg Hemphill says: "We can't wait to get started on the next batch of adventures with Jack and Victor. We have lots of surprises in store for you!"
Ford Kiernan adds: "Chuffed to bits to be coming back for series eight. Greg and I have been cooking up some absolute corkers and we can't wait to show you what they are."
Commissioner Shane Allen is delighted Still Game will return for a new series: "It's rare for a show to attain the status of comedy classic whilst it's still on air. Ford and Greg are at the height of their creative powers and audiences all over the UK just adore their world with these fantastic characters. If previous audience figures are anything to go by let's hope the national grid can handle the demand."
The new series of Still Game will be shown on BBC One this Autumn or Winter.
