Goodness Gracious Me could be set to return.
The hit British-Asian sketch show, which starred Sanjeev Bhaskar, Meera Syal, Kulvinder Ghir and Nina Wadia, plus Dave Lamb, started on radio in 1996, before launching on TV in 1998. It was last seen on television in 2015 for an 'India Special', a one-off episode which followed on from the success of a reunion special the previous year.
Bhaskar appeared on The One Show today, during which co-host Matt Baker pointed out the TV format was nearly 20 years old. The comedy star responded "Don't say that, you'll make people feel old! Me, I don't feel old!"
Noting the show still felt very relevant, Baker asked: "On the horizon, is there a chance that it might come back?" Bhaskar responded: "There is a chance, yeah. We are having conversations about it."
He added: "It was a satirical programme, and I think that right now we could do with some satire. It may be timely."
No further details are currently available, so it is not known how far progressed discussions or plans may be.
Sanjeev Bhaskar was appearing on The One Show to promote Unforgotten, the ITV detective drama he stars in. He revealed during the interview that the costume department puts random objects in his character's trademark rucksack in an attempt to surprise him.
