The BBC is reportedly "highly receptive" to bringing back comedy show The League Of Gentlemen.
There has been talk for some time that the Royston Vasey set TV show could return, with Mark Gatiss recently making the strongest indication yet that the group were going to do something. Speaking on BBC6 Music last week, the star said they had seriously talked about creating something together, commenting "We're not quite sure what it is yet but we'd love to do something, it is 10 years..."
He added: "I think increasingly, talking about prescience, we have become a local country for local people and I wonder if there is something Brexity in us that we can do."
Responding to the idea now, a BBC source told Radio Times that the corporation would be "highly receptive" to a return for the dark comedy show, either as a special, or something more substantial. The source added: "The door would be open to a special return, but it's up to them."
The League Of Gentlemen, having made a name for themselves in live shows, launched their unique brand of humour on Radio 4 in 1997. The comedy transferred to BBC Two in 1999, where it ran for three highly successful series. A film followed in 2005.
The stars have reunited a number of times since, for example guest starring in Horrible Histories, working together on an episode of Psychoville, and appearing on stage for the Royal Free Rocks With Laughter charity gig in 2013, however fans are still clamouring for new episodes.
Discussion of a reunion last surfaced in October 2014 when the group met for lunch to discuss plans.
Since The League Of Gentlemen ended Jeremy Dyson has worked on many projects, such as sketch show Psychobitches; whilst Mark Gatiss has been helping to mastermind hit dramas Doctor Who and Sherlock. Meanwhile Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith have been making Inside No. 9 together. The highly anticipated third series of their comic anthology series has been filmed, and is set for a broadcast on BBC Two in early 2017.
