  • A crowdfunding campaign has been launched to make new episodes of Raised By Wolves
  • The multiple award-winning sitcom was cancelled by Channel 4 this year after two series
  • The makers are now asking fans for donations via Kickstarter to fund the production of more episodes

Cancelled sitcom Raised By Wolves could make a comeback under a new crowdfunding plan.

The makers of the show have unveiled a campaign on Kickstarter to raise funds for the production of new episodes.

Created by sisters Caitlin Moran and Caroline Moran and based on their childhoods growing up in a single-parent working class Wolverhampton family, Raised By Wolves follows the story of six socially-isolated siblings and their acerbic mother. The sitcom's stars include Rebekah Staton, Helen Monks, Alexa Davies and Philip Jackson.

Channel 4 announced earlier this year that it would not be ordering a third series of the acclaimed sitcom, despite the show winning awards including a prestigious Rose d'Or Award, and being named one of the top ten sitcoms of the 21st century in a recent poll.

Now the writers, and the programme's production company, Big Talk, are hoping to raise at least £320,000 to pay for another new episode of the show. The campaign needs to have raised the funds by Sunday 20th November, or it cannot go ahead. If more than the target amount is pledged, they will make as many additional episodes as possible.

The ultimate aim of the campaign, if not to fund an entire new series, is to convince other broadcasters and platform owners - such as Amazon or Netflix - to step in and commission a third series of the comedy. A full series would cost in the region of £2 million.

Additionally, the campaign hopes to fund two paid internships: one in writing, and one in television production.

In a letter to fans, the Moran sisters say: "Within a month [of our cancellation], 20,000 people had signed up to the Raised By Wolves Facebook page, mobilising to bring the show back (you're the best!), with thousands more signing up to our email Rebel Alliance (thank you!)

"And so we were like, 'Okay. You know what - let's do this. Let's do Raised By Wolves Series 3 - through Kickstarter!' They do it all the time in the US. Let's be the first UK show to give it a go. Let's be those bold pioneers.

"After all, if it falls on its arse, no one will remember our spectacular failure in three weeks' time. And if it works - well, it opens the door to hundreds of other projects that could also be directly commissioned by fans. 'THIS COULD BE THE REVOLUTION!'"

They add: "We're asking you to help us fund at least ONE episode, so we can give the world a further slice of Aretha's misanthropy, Grampy's complicated love life, Germaine's sexual awakening, and Della's Ripley-from-Aliens-in-CostCo parenting.

"Obviously, the more we can raise, the more episodes we can make - the more people support the campaign, spread the word and fund us, the bigger the chances we have of continuing to make the show. We've got the scripts right here! We know what happens next!"

A number of different levels of support for the campaign have been revealed, with promised rewards ranging from badges and mugs to DVDs, on-screen credits, and even cameos in the show, depending upon the amount donated, from just £5 to £5,000.
