  • Red Dwarf writer Doug Naylor has revealed he is considering writing a live stage version of the show
  • He confirmed in a newspaper interview that all of the main cast were on board with the idea
  • The show, which would tour the country, "would have to be like a movie on stage"

Red Dwarf writer Doug Naylor has suggested that the sitcom could have a live stage show spin-off that tours the country.

Speaking in an interview with The Express, the co-creator of the sci-fi comedy confirmed that the cast were "on board" with the idea. He said: "In terms of a live show tour, we haven't sat down properly and spoken about it but all the boys want to do a live tour and it will be great."

He added: "It wouldn't just be like Python at the O2 doing sketches and a lot of dances and songs. It would have to be like a movie on stage with special effects and whether that then becomes incredibly expensive and therefore undoable, we don't know until we've investigated it more."

Naylor was speaking as Series 11 of the long-running comedy broadcasts on Dave. Additionally, a twelfth series of the show has already been filmed, for broadcast next year. Discussing returning to the format and whether there was any concern whether it'd still work, he said: "I don't think we get nervous, the thing is we make the show kind of for ourselves and we always have done because I don't know what makes people laugh or what people like. I certainly know the Red Dwarf audience is made up of a whole bunch of completely different people who want different things from the show."

In other Red Dwarf news, an idea for a Red Dwarf Lego set has attracted over 7,500 supporters and now needs less than 2,500 votes to be considered by the bricks-based company to become an official set it distributes.
