Walliams & Friend guest stars announced
- The new series of David Walliams's sketch show will star guests including Harry Enfield and Meera Syal
- Hugh Bonneville, Miranda Richardson, Sheridan Smith and Jack Whitehall have also signed up
- Walliams & Friend is being filmed now, for broadcast on BBC One this Winter
The BBC has today confirmed more details about Walliams & Friend, the new sketch show series starring David Walliams.
Walliams & Friend sees the former Little Britain star joined by a different guest actor each week.
As previously reported by BCG, the comedy format is set to return for a full series following the success of a pilot episode at Christmas.
Featuring guest star Joanna Lumley (pictured), the special was watched by six million viewers and received positive reviews.
Jack Whitehall has already been named as one of the guest stars, with David Walliams having revealed in a radio interview: "We've got a sketch where a plumber comes round and he [Jack] tries to pretend he's down with working class people. We've written a sketch where we're two ad men as well... so lots of different things."
The BBC has now revealed the other stars involved in the six-part series. Harry Enfield, Meera Syal, Sheridan Smith and Miranda Richardson are all set to film sketches with Walliams.
The series will also feature a Christmas special, with Downton Abbey and W1A actor Hugh Bonneville lined up as the guest co-star.
Speaking about the new series, David Walliams says: "I am thrilled to be working with some of Britain's best loved comedians and actors."
The new series has been partially shot on location but, as was the case with the pilot, will also feature sketches recorded in front of a live audience. The studio segments are due to be recorded at The London Studios from this Saturday (tickets).
The BBC have confirmed that Morgana Robinson and Mike Wozniak, both of whom appeared in the pilot, will be returning as the regular ensemble support cast.
BBC commissioner Shane Allen says: "David is a master of the sketch show who has attracted a terrific array of A-list comedy stars to play with each week. The concepts and writing behind it are superbly crafted and the series promises fresh surprises every show."
Walliams & Friend will be shown on BBC One later this year. David Walliams is also currently working on bringing back comedy game show Blankety Blank for a one-off Christmas special.
