  • The BBC has ordered a seventh series of popular show Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience
  • Four new episodes will be filmed this summer, for broadcast on TV in 2017
  • The producers have turned to Kickstarter to try and raise funds to release Series 3 and Series 4 on DVD

Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience, the show in which comedian Rhod Gilbert tries out new jobs, is to return to the BBC for a seventh series.

The Welsh stand-up will film four new episodes across Wales and the UK this summer, with the episodes then set to be shown on [z]BBC Wales] in early 2017. A UK-wide broadcast via BBC Two has also been booked in for next year.

The producers say: "The long running series first aired way back in 2010, when Rhod had his very first work experience as a bin man trudging through the streets of Barry in south Wales.

"Since then Rhod's career path has seen him face up to a bizarre mix of challenges! He's jetted skywards to the point of vomit in an RAF Fighter jet, dragged out his feminine side as a Drag Artist on stage [pictured], and even drove a coach load of pensioners off the rails as a Coach Tour Guide. But having now experienced 24 jobs over the past 6 years you'd be forgiven for wondering if there's much else Rhod could add to his already near record-breaking CV..."

Rhod Gilbert himself comments: "Each time I reach the end of a series, I think I never want to try another job again! Each episode means I have to start a new job every week and settle in all over again; it's exhausting, and I'm shattered. But within a few weeks, and after a quick break, the irresistible urge to try some job I'll be rubbish at, and meet some new boss who will make my life hell kicks in, and before I know it I'm back in the BBC's metaphorical job centre awaiting my next placement."

The jobs Rhod will undertake in Series 7 are currently being kept a secret but the production team will be revealing the roles over the summer.

Rhys Waters from production company Zipline Creative comments: "Whenever we start a new series we like to keep Rhod's fans updated. We let people know as much as we can when we're out filming through the show's own @rhodsworkex twitter feed."

This announcement of a new series comes as the show's producers - Rhys Waters and Nathan Mackintosh - aim to get previous series released as a DVD.

Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience DVD

They explain: "With each series, we've repeatedly had fans asking us when the show would be released on DVD, and our reply has always been honestly 'We don't know'. Due to some complicated and boring legal stuff, although Rhod and ourselves created and produce the shows, none of us have total control of the format. However, we've now reached a solid contractual agreement with the rights holder that allows us to use Kickstarter to raise the funds needed to release Series 3 & 4 on DVD."

The Kickstarter campaign currently has 147 backers, with 9 days to go. However, at the time of writing the team are still approximately £15,000 short of their goal.

Waters says: "We really hope the Kickstarter is successful. Series 3 & 4 have some of our favourite and funniest episodes with Rhod: The Coach Guide episode where he taught pensioners how to snort chocolate; The Teacher episode, with little Scott Williams; and the hilarious scene with Rhod teaching Seagulls about spelling. We've had so many fans asking for it on DVD and they really deserve to be able to have it at home to laugh at whenever they want."

He adds: "Plain fact is, if the Kickstarter doesn't work out we won't be able to make the DVDs, so it's pretty much make or break."
