David Walliams sketch show to return for full series
- David Walliams's TV sketch show Walliams & Friend is to return for a full series
- The guest stars booked for the new episodes include Jack Whitehall
- The series will be shown on BBC One this Autumn
BBC One has ordered a full series of Walliams & Friend, the sketch show starring David Walliams.
A pilot episode of the format, in which Walliams performs sketches alongside a guest star, was broadcast on Christmas Eve 2015, with Joanna Lumley. The programme was watched by nearly 4 million viewers, and picked up positive press reviews.
The new full series, which will be shown this autumn on BBC One, will feature a different guest star in each of the episodes.
The news was revealed by David Walliams, who was appearing on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Radio 2 this morning to promote his new book, The World's Worst Children.
Appearing on the programme with Jack Whitehall, who was talking about his new stand-up tour, Walliams said: "I've been writing sketches, because me and Jack are going to do a sketch show together. I'm doing this series called Walliams & Friend, and Jack is one of the star guests. I'm very excited because he's my favourite comedian."
Walliams writes the TV series with The Dawson Bros. Asked by host Chris Evans if they had any ideas in mind for sketches for Whitehall, Walliams revealed: "We've got a sketch where a plumber comes round and he [Jack] tries to pretend he's down with working class people. We've written a sketch where we're two ad men as well... so lots of different things."
David Walliams is currently acting as one of the judges on Britain's Got Talent. He revealed that since his mother acted as a stand in judge on a recent episode of the variety show when Simon Cowell failed to show up, she has received more offers of work. He said: "She has had offers from other TV shows, talking heads shows and things like that. So I think that she's going to eclipse me very soon!"
