BBC Two has ordered a second series of Two Doors Down, the sitcom centred around a couple and their insufferable neighbours.

The first series of the Scotland-based comedy is currently broadcasting on Friday nights, with Episode 4 of 6 due to be shown tomorrow.

A spokesperson for BBC Scotland has confirmed to British Comedy Guide that work is already under-way on creating a second series. The episodes will be filmed this summer in Glasgow.

Two Doors Down, which is written by Simon Carlyle and Gregor Sharp, first appeared on television as a one-off special on New Year's Eve 2013. Following a warm reception a full series was commissioned. The six episode series is currently averaging 1.05m viewers a week, based on overnight ratings data.

The programme stars Alex Norton, Arabella Weir, Jonathan Watson, Doon Mackichan, Sharon Rooney, Elaine C. Smith, Jamie Quinn and Harki Bhambra, all of whom are set to return for the new series.

Executive Producer Steven Canny is thrilled viewers will once again meet the residents of Latimer Crescent: "I couldn't be more delighted that we'll be revisiting these glorious characters later in the year. The terrific, inventive, funny writing is delivered perfectly by this wonderful cast. I can't wait to see what horrors befall them."

BBC commissioner Shane Allen adds: "The first series has been so well received, and we're proud to welcome this gem back again. It's beautifully written with the cream of Scottish comedy talent on board, and audiences across the UK have taken it to their hearts."

Series 2 is due to be on screens before the end of the year.
