Comedian Luisa Omielan is to pilot her own show for ITV2.

The stand-up has been riding a wave of success in the past few years with sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and acclaimed tours in LA, NY, Montreal and Australia. Lauded for her live shows, What Would Beyoncé Do?! and Am I Right Ladies?!, she also enjoys a large online following, and recently part-crowd-funded her own debut DVD release.

Written by Omielan with "a host of comedy writers", the non-for-broadcast pilot will be shot in the spring for ITV2.

Producers at King Bert - the company owned by Miranda Hart and David Walliams - describe the programme as "incorporating sketches and on the hoof commentary with Luisa and a cast of newcomers".

Reacting to the news today, Luisa Omielan said: "I am really excited to be developing my own show. It's a privilege to be working with King Bert Productions. It feels really nice to be writing something for TV with my own stamp on it."

Executive producer and company co-founder Jo Sargent adds: "As soon as I saw her live, I knew Luisa had a hook and style instantly relatable to her audience, who like me, were hanging on her every word. She has an energy and spark that is just joyful. We are really looking forward to working with her. She is indeed a very funny lady."

Luisa has previously been heard on Radio 2 in her own 2014 stand-up pilot Luisa Omielan's Party, and has appeared on television programmes including The John Bishop Show, Comedy Central At The Comedy Store, Crackanory and Seann Walsh's Late Night Comedy Spectacular.

She also enjoyed a brief guest appearance in the penultimate episode of hit sitcom Miranda.

If ITV bosses are pleased with the pilot, a full series could be on screens by the end of the year.

Omielan's book debut, What Would Beyoncé Do?!, is due to be published in July.
