Channel 4 to make spoof Royal Family soap opera
- The Windsors will be a 'comedy soap opera' about the Royal Family
- Channel 4 have ordered 6 episodes, which will be broadcast in 2016
- The show has been created by Star Stories writers Bert Tyler-Moore and George Jeffrie
Channel 4 is making The Windsors, a "comedy soap opera".
The six-part series will follow the imagined lives and loves of the Royal Family.
The show will be written by Bert Tyler-Moore and George Jeffrie, who previously worked on the spoof celebrity profile show Star Stories.
Channel 4's Phil Clarke explains: "In The Windsors, our much-loved Royal family is re-imagined through the lens of a soap opera, and although the stories are completely fictional, they are inspired by real events. As a result, writers Bert and George have outdone even the funniest, most ludicrous issue of Hello! magazine ever."
Robert Wulff-Cochrane, an Executive Producer from production company Noho Film and TV, says: "Infused by our gossip-fuelled sense of what we think we know about them, The Windsors is a joyous weekly peek behind the curtains of Britain's most famous family."
Writers Bert Tyler-Moore and George Jeffrie have a long comedy CV.
Since Star Stories finished in 2008 they have worked on many comedy shows, including creating Murder In Successville and Pete Versus Life.
The Windsors, which has been given the green light following a non-broadcast pilot shot earlier this year, will be filmed in 2016. The series will be produced by Izzy Mant (Toast Of London) and is directed by Adam Miller (Mongrels).
No details have yet been revealed as to which actors will portray the famous characters. Channel 4 says they'll confirm the cast list at a later date.
A 1994 sitcom on ITV, The House Of Windsor, focused on life for the staff of the Royal Household - particularly with regard to the monarchy's image in the press.
