Chastity Butterworth TV chat show in development
A TV chat show format for the comedy character Chastity Butterworth is in development.
Played by Game of Thrones and Mapp & Lucia star Gemma Whelan, Chastity Butterworth is described as a woman who has "all the manners and mores of the stereotypical English upper class woman, whilst at the same time firing off a series of classic on-liners and being on a massive come down from some serious class A drugs".
Whelan has been appearing as Chastity Butterworth in live shows for a number of years now. In 2010 she won the Funny Women Variety Act title for her work as the character, and she has performed two full runs at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2011 and 2013.
Last year Chastity Butterworth appeared on TV screens in BBC Three's comedy showcase show Live At The Electric.
Trial run-throughs of The Chastity Butterworth Show will take place in London later this month, aimed at developing a pilot for BBC Two or BBC Three.
The Chastity Butterworth Show would follow on from the likes of The Mrs. Merton Show in inviting real celebrity guests to chat with a comedy character.
The producers say: "Join Chastity for chat and entertainment as she invites a celebrity guest and members of the public to have a good old chin wag."
The two run-throughs of the show will be held on the afternoons of Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th October at the Soho Theatre. To apply to be in the audience see our free tickets page
