ITV2 orders 4 comedies to sit alongside MOBO Awards coverage
ITV2 has ordered four one-off comedy shows featuring black, Asian and ethnic minority talent.
The programmes have been commissioned to support the channel's coverage of the MOBO Awards.
ITV's Angela Jain says: "These shows are the perfect opportunity in the run-up to the Mobos to bring some funny stuff to the telly from some people new to telly."
The programmes are:
Sniggaz, a 30 minute hidden camera show featuring up-and-coming black and Asian comedians. The stars, who have not yet been named, will "hit the streets in a mix of fast paced provocative hidden camera and character based pranks poking fun at prejudices and stereotypes around race and diversity in the UK".
One of production company Renowned's founders, Duane Jones said: "We're thrilled to be working with ITV2 to unleash our brand new comedy show, Sniggaz, bringing some of the freshest black and Asian comics and writers to the channel for the first time. Sniggaz will poke fun at the stereotypes and prejudices that most of us are too afraid to discuss. Watch out UK, the sniggaz are coming..."
All About The Bants, another hidden camera show in which "hidden camera pranks meet lad culture". Musical star Tinchy Stryder (pictured) and Vine star Arron Crascall will host the one-off episode, executing pranks on unsuspecting twenty-somethings across a number work and leisure locations.
Tinchy Stryder says: "We play pranks on each other on tour all the time so I can't wait to bring these to ITV2. It's going to be a lot of fun and we've got a great team that are ready to cause some mayhem on the British public."
All About The Bants executive producer Dhanny Joshi said: "We're really excited about bringing 'banter' to the hidden camera world. Tinchy and the team have been working hard to create some cringe, awkward and frankly 'WTF' moments for the show. We're excited to be working with ITV2 and are now focused on working hard to make this a great show."
The Comedy Basement, a showcase of the talents of a number of black British stand-up comedians. Kojo and Eddie Kadi will be amongst the comics taking part.
Executive producer Richard Botchway says: "We are thrilled to be working again with ITV on what will be a stand-up comedy show unlike no other. This will be a tremendous opportunity to showcase the pool of black British comedians at their best."
The Ty And Ky Show, a sketch show starring cousins Tyrone-Lee Davis and Kieran Shekoni.
Ty & Ky say: "It's going to be a fantastic show. We've got brand new original characters, sketches and ideas and a top team around us. We've been dreaming of doing this stuff all our lives and now the opportunity is here we are dropping the funny big time! It's going down!"
Producer Marc Allen adds: "The guys are super-talented and it is amazing to be pulling this show together. We've got huge hopes that this is the start of something really big, for the show, the team and the talent."
With the MOBO Awards due to be staged in Glasgow on Tuesday 6th October, the four comedy shows are expected to be shown on ITV2 in late September or early October.
