Michael McIntyre developing two series for BBC One
Michael McIntyre has committed to working with BBC One long-term.
A new agreement will see him create two series for the BBC's flagship channel in 2016.
The stand-up has teamed up with new production company Hungry Bear Media to form a second outfit, Hungry McBear, which will oversee both series and all of McIntyre's future television projects.
Trade magazine Broadcast reports that Hungry McBear "has been handed carte blanche to showcase the comedian's talents".
Hungry Bear was the company behind McIntyre's high-rating 2014 Christmas Day special, Michael McIntyre's Very Christmassy Christmas Show.
The comedian's next TV project is another one-off special, Michael McIntyre's Easter Night At The Coliseum.
Due to be recorded at the London Coliseum on Sunday 29th March with guests including Bill Bailey and Eddie Izzard, the show will feature "some of the world's biggest music artists, fellow comedians, unique performers and speciality acts".
McIntyre says of the show: "When I heard the BBC were making a show called Michael McIntyre's Easter Night At The Coliseum, I knew I had to be involved. The London Coliseum is a truly magnificent theatre and I will be hosting an array of talent befitting this magnificent venue. This will be a true variety show for all the family to enjoy. I can't wait..."
Mark Linsey, Controller of BBC Entertainment Commissioning, adds: "It is always a treat to have Michael on BBC One and his Easter special with a galaxy of stars and from an amazing venue will not disappoint."
Dan Baldwin, from Hungry Bear Media, comments: "We are delighted with the commission and our ongoing relationship with BBC One and a truly brilliant comedian in Michael. This will be a spectacle that the entire family will put down their phones, tablets and computers to watch together."
Following the Easter special, McIntyre will begin to create his next series with Hungry Bear founders Baldwin and Juliet Denison. The format has yet to be decided, but it is understood that it won't be a chat show. Therefore, although previously confirmed, a second series of The Michael McIntyre Chat Show will now not appear on BBC One this year.
Dan Baldwin is best known as the creator and producer of various ITV2 comedy shows, including Celebrity Juice. Speaking to Broadcast, he explained that he and McIntyre have started working together after they met whilst his company was producing Michael McIntyre's Very Christmassy Christmas Show. He joked of the star: "He phones me more than my mum does."
Baldwin, who acted as the Executive Producer on ITV2 series Dapper Laughs: On The Pull, also commented on the controversy that surrounded that show. He said: "I have learnt that you can't just take someone who's had success online and put them on telly and think they can cope."
