Heydon Prowse and Jolyon Rubinstein, the stars of political prank show The Revolution Will Be Televised, are to front the pilot episode of a new studio-based topical TV comedy format.

The Week That Wasn't, which will be recorded in front of a live audience, is described as a programme which will "take a totally new approach to what's happened during the week."

The producers explain: "It's the week's news delivered in a way that will mess with your mind, but weirdly make everything feel a little bit clearer at the same time." They add: "Sometimes fiction is truer than fact, and on The Week That Wasn't it's hard to tell the difference."

The exact format of the show won't become clear until the pilot is filmed at The London Studios this weekend, however it has been revealed that Mother's Best Child is involved. The production company has previously created several viral comedy video hits by editing and adjusting existing news footage.

Talking about Mother's Best Child, whom they describe as "expert clip manipulators", the producers say: "They can make Boris Johnson knock down Tower Bridge with a misjudged basketball throw, or show us someone nicking a flatscreen TV from 10 Downing Street while David Cameron gives a press conference outside."

The producers conclude: "The show is a mixture of clips, stunts, jokes and news, but whatever it is, you won't know what just happened."

Heydon Prowse and Jolyon Rubinstein have so far recorded three series of The Revolution Will Be Televised for BBC Three. Their election special, Democracy Dealers, was broadcast last month, whilst highlights from their main series have just been shown on BBC Two on Sunday nights.

Mother's Best Child was founded by Daniel Clarke and Guy Davidson. The company, which also has a hand in running the recently established Guerrilla Busfare comedy nights, has filmed various stunts itself, including comedian Luke McQueen making an audience cross by tricking them into watching him.
