Adam Buxton and Graham Linehan writing new sitcom The Cloud
Channel 4 has confirmed that Adam Buxton and Graham Linehan are working on a comedy project together called The Cloud.
The sitcom focuses on life for the crew of a space-station orbiting the Earth.
It has been known for some time that the duo have been working together on a space-based idea, with Buxton telling British Comedy Guide in 2013 that the show was sci-fi, "which is something I've always wanted to do".
However, today Channel 4 confirmed they have commissioned the project and would be filming a pilot episode.
The channel explains the premise as follows: "The job of Cloud Station 13 is to protect the vast amounts of information the human population now hoards on its endless devices - the majority of which comprises of selfies, copious pictures of kittens and a lot of porn. The disparate group who man the hub are anything but technical whizzes; which would matter less if technology - including a largely voice activated ship - was a little more reliable."
The not-for-broadcast pilot will be filmed this spring. The episode will star Buxton alongside Aisling Bea (Trollied) and Jamie Demetriou (Cockroaches).
Richard Boden will oversee the production. He has an established working relationship with Linehan, sharing directoral duties on previous series The IT Crowd, The Walshes and Count Arthur Strong.
Linehan and Buxton have collaborated before. The duo developed the passionate and pretentious East European animator character Pavel, which Buxton performed at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2005.
News on whether The Cloud will become a series is expected later this year.
