Comedian and actor Robert Webb will host a new quiz show pilot with a £500,000 jackpot.

The Peep Show star will move away from comedy for the new programme, Smart Ask, which will see the contestants setting questions in the hope of "outwitting 10 formidable experts".

It will not be the first time Webb has taken the host's chair, having previously fronted the short 2010 series Robert's Web, which took a look at the past week online.

Webb was recently a hit on the West End stage in the comedy play Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, adapted from P.G. Wodehouse's 1938. novel The Code of the Woosters.

He can currently be seen starring alongside Adrian Edmondson, Neil Morrissey and Miles Jupp in a new West End production of Tim Firth's comedy Neville's Island.

A final series of Peep Show will be recorded next year, whilst a return of comedy drama Ambassadors is still rumoured. Both programmes see Webb star alongside long-term comedy partner, David Mitchell.

Smart Ask will be recorded this Sunday at ITV's London Studios. Tickets are currently available
