Production is under way on Comedy Central UK's first studio audience sitcom.

Brotherhood follows the story of two 20-something brothers who have to look after their 13 year-old brother when their mother passes away.

The eight-part series is now undertaking location filming, with the first episode due to be shot in front of a studio audience at The London Studios on Friday.

Scrotal Recall star Johnny Flynn and Ben Ashenden, from sketch group The Pin, take on the lead roles of brothers Toby and Dan.

Scott Folan will play the younger Jamie, with stand-up comedian and Snog, Marry, Avoid host Ellie Taylor playing Poppy, the attractive girl at work that Dan fancies. Miranda and The Job Lot star Sarah Hadland will appear as the 'meddling' Auntie Debbie. Fresh Meat star Gemma Chan is also on the cast list as "gorgeous school teacher" Miss Pemberton.

The sitcom, which was piloted under the title Mummy's Boys, is created by Big Talk Productions, the company that has previously worked with the network to create single-camera sitcom Threesome. It has been written by newcomers Patrick Carr and Paul McKenna, and is being directed by Dominic Brigstocke (I'm Alan Partridge).

The blurb explains: "Brotherhood follows twenty-somethings Dan and Toby who become surrogate parents to little brother Jamie after their mum passes away. Dan is a sarcastic joker - anxious and a little uptight. Toby is a naive sweetheart with an eye for the ladies. And Jamie hasn't said a word in six months.

"Thrust into a new world of responsibility, Dan and Toby are in over their heads. Will Dan ever get the upper hand on his live wire work colleague Poppy? Will Toby get together with Jamie's gorgeous school teacher Miss Pemberton? Will the boys get meddling Auntie Debbie off their backs? One thing's for sure: the brothers only have each other to rely on since, well, that's all they've got."

Lourdes Diaz from Comedy Central says: "Last year we announced Comedy Central International's strategy to commission multi-camera sitcoms for a global audience. Brotherhood is the first to come through our development pipeline and I am thrilled it's going into series production. Paul and Patrick have written a fantastic series that will resonate with our core 16-34 audience and the cast is absolutely spot-on!"

Kenton Allen from Big Talk Productions adds: "We're thrilled to be continuing our successful relationship with Comedy Central and delighted they are backing Paul and Patrick's whip-smart studio sitcom. We can't wait to welcome audiences to the Brotherhood."
