A call has gone out for contestants to appear in a TV entertainment show hosted by Miranda Hart.

The show has not been named but is described as a "one off special" for BBC One. The accompanying description, which is asking for families to apply, hints it may be the rumoured revival of The Generation Game.

The description says: "Miranda Hart is looking for fun families for her new one off special on BBC One. She is looking for families of all ages and generations to come to the studio for the chance to win some amazing prizes. Such Fun will be had!"

Describing the production as a "one off special" may indicate to some that a single episode of the programme will be broadcast - likely in the Christmas schedules - with the fate of a full series decided upon based on the public's reaction.

The BBC previously announced plans for Miranda Hart to host a new version of The Generation Game but had to backtrack when the star posted on Twitter: "Apparently it's 100 per cent cert I am doing Gen Game. First I've heard of it. Mulling some ideas about it might be more accurate."

Hart also added at the time: "It's nice to see your thoughts re Gen Game but to reiterate let's 'shut that door' on it for now. It's one of a few private brainstorms."

Following this, BBC One controller Charlotte Moore issued a statement saying: "We are working closely with Miranda on how a modern day Generation Game would work, whilst she continues to be committed to her work as an exceptional actress. It's an exciting process."

Should the contestants auditions indeed be for The Generation Game, it would suggest Hart has now committed to the format.

Afternoon Update: A spokeswoman declined to divulge details of the pilot to BroadcastNow, but confirmed: "Miranda is recording this non-broadcast entertainment show for BBC1. It is still work in progress and as yet is untitled - we are still in development with the idea."

Miranda Hart is now on the final leg of her stand-up tour. She tweeted last week: "Woke up with the heady realisation my tour is being remounted in a week. Final 8 nights of stand up. Prob ever."

The DVD of My, What I Call, Live Show will be released in November and is now available to pre-order.

Two Christmas specials of her hit sitcom Miranda are planned to broadcast this December.

In the below video, the comedy star introduces The Best of Miranda, a new script book featuring Hart's own favourite bits from the sitcom.
