Javone Prince to star in BBC Two sketch show
BBC Two has announced a new sketch series, The Javone Prince Show.
The comedy, starring PhoneShop actor Javone Prince, has been in development for some time. The BBC today confirmed that it has commissioned a four part series.
The BBC explains: "The multi-talented and award-winning Javone Prince is coming to BBC Two with a brand-new sketch series. The Javone Prince Show looks at all facets of contemporary multicultural Britain; it questions who we are, what our attitudes are and why we have them.
"Each week, self-professed original loverman, Javone and friends will dissect 21st century Britain with a series of insightful, relevant, and downright hilarious takes on everyday life."
The series, which will be shot in front of a live audience, will feature "sketches, stand-up, music and some very special guests". The BBC adds: "This is going to be an explosive debut series from one of Britain's most exciting new comic talents."
The series is being developed by the BBC with Lovely Electricity, the production company set up by PhoneShop creator Phil Bowker and TV executive Lee Tucker. Myfanwy Moore (Little Britain) will be the Executive Producer on the show.
The pilot episode, filmed in March, was written, produced and directed by Phil Bowker.
Javone Prince has worked in sketch comedy before. As an actor, he has appeared in a number of TV shows, including Sorry, I've Got No Head, Little Miss Jocelyn and Horrible Histories.
In an interview to promote PhoneShop, Prince spoke about how he has been a life-long fan of comedy. "The first comedian I watched growing up was Benny Hill, he had a comedy show on Monday nights on ITV. I think I was about seven or eight and it used to be so funny. I also loved Laurel and Hardy on BBC Two, I loved the chemistry that they had between them."
There is no news yet on whether E4 are going to order a fourth series of PhoneShop. In the below clip, taken from the last series, Jerwayne and Ash (Andrew Brooke) deal with a customer:
