BBC Three orders new comedy from Jonny Sweet
BBC Three has announced a new six-part sitcom called Together.
The comedy has been created by and stars Jonny Sweet, the comic actor whose TV credits include Chickens and Babylon.
Together is based on the same premise as Sweet's romantic comedy Hard To Tell, which was launched on Radio 4 in 2011 and has so far run for two series.
The comedy centres around a couple in a new relationship, dealing with the interferences, obstructions and general disasters wrought by their family and friends.
The producers explains: "Sweet plays Tom, a charmless, witless but passionate 26-year-old prone to failure. He still has the same amount of self-possession as when he was aged 11 and, despite some genuine human potential, is yet to assemble anything close to what any other adult might call a 'life'.
"Each episode centres on the next step of their new relationship viewed through the interferences, obstructions and general disasters wrought by their family and friends. When Tom and Ellen are together, things seem to work - it's only in the spaces outside the relationship, in the chaotic intrusions of real life, and the deadly collaboration of parents, siblings, friends and exes, that the flailing attempts to make good first impressions, arrange first dates, or meet friends and parents seem to unravel."
The full series of Together, which is being filmed by Tiger Aspect Productions, will be shown in 2015.
Jonny Sweet says: "I am delighted to have cast myself as the romantic lead in this new sitcom, and struggle to imagine another scenario where I might land such a role. It's all very exciting and I'm really hoping this new show can finally help put the Beeb on the map."
Executive Producer Ben Cavey adds: "Jonny has to be one of the most exciting comedic talents around at the moment. I'm so pleased that Together has been commissioned by the BBC. The scripts are as charming and witty as Jonny is himself. I hope the public will fall in love with this pair of star crossed lovers as much as I have."
No further details on the actors involved in the TV series have yet been announced, so it is unclear if the radio cast will reprise their roles.
Hard To Tell featured Fresh Meat's Charlotte Ritchie as Tom's girlfriend Ellen and also starred Simon Greenall, Alex Macqueen, Vicki Pepperdine, Sarah Solemani, Katy Wix and Julia Davis.
Together is one of four new comedy shows announced by BBC Three today. The network has also commissioned Top Coppers, Fried and Josh.
