Channel 4 is planning a one-off comedy to mark the poll on Scottish Independence.

The Daily Record reports that planning work is now underway on Scotland In A Day, a mockumentary which will feature "big names from across the generations of comedy".

The show is believed to be a spoof of the BBC's Britain In A Day documentary. The 2012 programme featured footage from around the country in an attempt to highlight the daily 'lives, loves, fears and hopes of people living in Britain'.

Scotland In A Day, however, is being billed as a "near the knuckle" comedy show. The project is being worked on by The Comedy Unit, the Glasgow-based production company behind formats such as Burnistoun and Limmy's Show.

The newspaper reports: "Producers are still in negotiations with several key cast, but Absolutely star Jack Docherty and comedy wrestler Grado are already on board for the topical project."

Rab Christie from The Comedy Unit says: "Many of the characters and sketches are themed around the referendum, others are simply going about their business one day in September. It'll be a very funny show, and a celebration of Scottish talent."

The production team are inviting members of the public to appear in the programme too. They're asking people to submit a 30 second film of themselves doing an everyday thing like 'brushing their teeth, travelling, getting ready to go out, drinking, cooking, playing - even broadcastable moments in the bedroom'.

If you want to submit a clip to appear in the programme, email it to info@comedyunit.co.uk by the 24th August.

Scotland In A Day is expected to be broadcast on Channel 4 across the UK shortly after the polls close, the date of which is set as the 18th September 2014.

Story update, 21st August: Channel 4 has confirmed the show, revealing that it is written by Jack Docherty and will feature John Hannah, Brian Cox, Doon Mackichan and Kayvan Novak.
