Royal Television Society Awards 2014 shortlist

The shortlists for the 2014 Royal Television Society Awards have been announced, with comedians and comedy shows appearing in a number of the categories.

ITV2 sitcom Plebs (pictured) leads the way in the comedy-related nominations, with three mentions. The youthful Ancient Rome-set sitcom has previously won prizes including Best New Comedy Programme at the British Comedy Awards. A second series is due to be shown later this year.

Additionally, E4 comedy drama My Mad Fat Diary is nominated in the Drama Series category alongside Peaky Blinders and Utopia, with the show's lead actress Sharon Rooney nominated against Olivia Colman and Jodie Whittaker in the acting category.

The Royal Television Society describe The RTS Awards as recognising "the gold standard of achievement in the television community". To see the full list of categories spanning all genres visit rts.org.uk

The results of the awards will be announced on the 18th March at a ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London, with Tim Vine acting as the host.
