After serving in two wars for his country, Sam Cobbett has to accept that the demolition men are going to pull down his home in Ironmonger Row. His daughter, Doris, comes to the rescue and moves him in to the 13th floor flat she shares with her husband, Arthur, and son Ron. Sam is a reasonable man, salt of the earth, but he is also set in his ways and living with youngsters and their new fangled ideas is set to test him.
