Mrs Brown's Boys holds strong

Mrs Brown's Boys was the only bright spark in BBC One's comedy lineup last night.

Paul Millar, Digital Spy, 10th January 2012

The brilliant Irish comedy returns, beginning with a timely Christmas special. Agnes is looking forward to having all her kids home for the first time in four years, as son Trevor will be returning from missionary work.

But as this is the Brown household, things aren't going to go to plan. Trevor suddenly can't make it and Dermot is under pressure to spend his first wedded Christmas at his snobby in-laws.

Those situations aren't unique. Indeed, many of the gags are comedy staples - the tree too big for the lounge, an overdose on decorations, the turkey still being alive, Grandad wearing a crash helmet and been seen before.

But even when gags aren't new, they're still funny in the world of Agnes Brown.
