Jeremy's day takes an unexpected turn when he finds his wife Janet at his front door.

Having walked out on him over a year ago she is back to give their marriage another go. However, since Janet left, Jeremy has grown closer to Robin, the pretty American woman who has given him a new lease of life. He now faces a tough choice between the two women. Although, the decision may be taken out of his hands as Robin has some news to share.

At least Jeremy can rely on his friends as he rounds up the gang up for a drive down to London for the New Year's Eve celebrations. But on the way, he makes some discoveries that leave him wondering who he can trust. As he heads back to Watford, he welcomes in 1970 with one of the few people who, despite her faults, has never let him down, his elderly neighbour Mrs Wyndham.
