50-year-old Leslie Flitcroft is a man trying desperately to sever his mother's Kitty's apron strings but boxed in by his job as manager of the family's health food store (Nurse Nature).
He'd like to spend more time with the love of his life, Wendy Watson (mother of teenager Clive), but the scheming Kitty has other ideas.
Brucella Pashley is the plain woman who works with Leslie in the shop and thinks Kitty a far more fitting lady-companion than Wendy.
The programme title plays on the fact that Kitty, a long-faded actress, enjoys a regular tipple of gin and primrose.
