E4's take on the superhero genre falls somewhere between the disappointing Heroes and ITV2's even-more-disappointing No Heroics, ending up being more satisfying than either, while not quite reaching the heights of the channel's previous hits Skins and Dead Set. A group of sullen teenagers on community service (complete with attention-seeking orange jumpsuits) are caught up in a freak storm, and emerge with each gaining a superpower.

In Misfits ASBO kids on community service get struck by lightning and end up with super powers. It's funny, clever and far more adult than a whole load of shows I could mention.

Has E4 cracked the formula for youth drama?

Skins, The Inbetweeners - and now Misfits. E4 is producing some brilliant drama. So why can't BBC3 do the same?

Heroes... but not as we know them

E4's new drama Misfits is not your typical teen show. The series follows a gang of five young oddballs serving community service orders who, after being caught in a freak electrical storm, find themselves saddled with strange superpowers.

Misfits Preview

If the rest of the series lives up to the excellent first episode, this will undoubtedly become a huge hit for E4 and I'm sure will move across to Channel Four. Easily the best new British show of the year.
