With great power comes great responsibility. But what comes with a fairly rubbish power? Something else entirely - and there's some serious super-power envy going on in tonight's masterful instalment of Misfits.

If you want to compare Misfits with Heroes, then what it's been lacking is its evil Sylar. But that's about to change.

In a delightfully choreographed opening scene we meet a young man who acquired a special talent during the storm. His celebrity results in the Asbo Five being outed as well. Fame, fortune and canapes beckon but stardom isn't all it's cracked up to be - especially when it demands you blow your brains out on live TV.

Or, as Nathan puts it: "Fame is pointless. That's why famous people pretend to care about the Africans."

The final episode of this series will be shown on Sunday - so there's still time for Simon to fall for Alisha. It would be rude not to.

Misfits 2.5 review

After a run of sterling episodes, Misfits slipped back into neutral for this entertaining but slightly dubious hour.

Misfits series 2 episode 5 review

Misfits this week is a more subdued affair after a fantastically tense and fast paced episode. Far from being a tedious 45 minutes of filler unworthy of even Heroes, it pulls the focus back to the strong character interaction that makes this show such a joy.

Jake Laverde, Den Of Geek, 10th December 2010

With Future Simon no longer in the picture, Alisha shifts her attentions to Present Simon, who, frankly, is not yet the bright and buff superhero she fell in love with/will fall in love with/is anyone else getting a bit confused about the mechanics of this time-travelling business? Still, their romance makes a sweet contrast to the rest of the episode, which involves quite a lot of sex and even more murder, as a couple of newcomers leave a trail of destruction.

Rebecca Nicholson, The Guardian, 9th December 2010

A cute, smiley, popular girl fancies the unlikeliest of these highly unlikely superheroes: timid Simon. She must be a psychotic serial killer, mustn't she? Immortal Nathan thinks so and he has good reason to be paranoid, having once again been brutally murdered. Mind-reader Kelly also feels frisky, having fallen for a funny-looking lad who seduces with his sweet thoughts. She should be more cautious; nobody is quite who they seem in this brilliantly inventive series. Tonight's raunchy episode culminates with a fancy dress party, which sees our heroes swap their jumpsuits for traditional superhero garb. But will wearing lycra and capes help them slide out of this week's sticky situation?

Claire Webb, Radio Times, 9th December 2010

In another excellent episode from our young superheroes, Nathan finds out how many times he can be killed. Twice, it turns out, is the answer. Not too happy at dying again, he has a sneaky suspicion Jessica is responsible for his death, and they then learn Simon could be her next victim. Murder aside, love is in the air, as Kelly meets Bruno, and she hears him thinking that she's gorgeous. What could possibly be up with such a charmer, other than that he's on the run from the rozzers?

It's rare that any British drama betters its American equivalent but if Misfits is our version of Heroes then it's proving edgier, funnier and more original. As season two nears its conclusion, two of our superpowered Asbo teenagers find that love has its complications.

Misfits 2.4 review

Misfits certainly keeps you on your toes. One of the best things about this show is how unpredictable it is, as the normal rules of genre television don't seem to apply.

Misfits: Series 2, Episode 4 review

Yet another excellent episode of Misfits went out this week, with the usual mix of cheeky humour, intense drama and stylish visuals we've started to get used to now.

Transmission Blog, 3rd December 2010

There's a trigger-happy nutter on the loose and only our fledgeling superheroes can stop him in his tracks. If they can stop cracking jokes and bickering, that is. Sandal-wearing eco-warrior Ollie - the latest juvenile offender to possess superpowers - swaggers in to show them how it's done. He regrets it. Things reach a thrilling climax when the madman, who appears to be acting out a brutal video game, takes Kelly hostage, forcing her to swap orange jumpsuit for frilly wedding dress. Never has the hard-boiled chav looked so adorably affronted. Can the Misfits shelve their differences in time to rescue one of their number? Or must the mysterious masked hero save the day again? It's another gripping instalment of this ambitious teen drama - especially when the enemy swaps his gun for a chainsaw.
