A mostly spoiler-free look at the Miranda finale

I'll admit I shed a few tears at the end, both joyful and melancholy.

Carmen Croghan, Everything I Know About The UK..., 3rd January 2015

Only the lonely knew just how funny 'Miranda' was

Miranda wasn't dark, or edgy, or all the things comedy is supposed to be - but it was old fashioned, and it tugged at the heartstrings.

Tim Stanley, The Telegraph, 2nd January 2015

Miranda's happy-ever-after nothing to do with romance

We need to be reminded that it doesn't matter if we don't fit in with the norm, look right or say the right thing. It's a message that doesn't get broadcast enough.

Ellie Walker-Arnott, Radio Times, 2nd January 2015

Miranda's pratfalls have been done with panache

Miranda Hart's sitcom will receive a mixed farewell when it ends for good on New Year's Day, but I salute its originality and scholastic fascination with comedic conventions.

8 life lessons we've learned from Miranda

She might fall down a lot and find herself in many an awkward situation, but there's a lot to be learned from Miranda Hart's comedy alter ego.

Sarah Hadland: Miranda & I may well work together again

The comedy actresses, who played best friends Miranda and Stevie in Hart's hit BBC One sitcom, have another project in the pipeline. And it's not Call the Midwife...

Sarah Hadland interview

"We've given them an alternative to all the perfect women that they see on television"

Ellie Walker-Arnott, Radio Times, 1st January 2015

Radio Times review

With a sitcom as lovable as this it's annoying to have to say goodbye, but here the endearingly clunky heroine takes her final plunge, and viewers will know if a romantic resolution is on the cards, as per the rules of the genre. Then again, this was always a category-defying wonder, with the show's detractors craving more sting and less panto while perhaps missing the point that Miranda is a melodrama but with fun substituted for drama. And tonight, in true Bette Davis fashion (à la Now, Voyager), Miranda does have her "I'm not afraid, mother" moment.

The character might always set herself up for failure, but Hart has hit the bullseye in fitting in signature trademarks - silly wordplay, disregard for conventional behaviour, cryptic innuendo - alongside true feeling and poignancy. Her last gallop, sadly.

David Oppedisano, Radio Times, 1st January 2015

TV review: Miranda - the final episode, BBC One

So how was it for you then? The finale of Miranda was never going to please everyone. Ride off into the sunset with Gary and it would be corny. End the episode alone with a broken Hart, sorry, heart, and it would make devoted fans who want to see the character happy more miserable than Morrissey on a visit to an abbatoir.

Bruce Dessau, Beyond The Joke, 1st January 2015

Miranda detractors unlikely to see her fall on her face

Inventive and well-acted sitcom bows out after 20 episodes, blending traditional slapstick with painfully funny originality.
