Series 4, Episode 5 - The Crying Game
Alec buys a murder mystery game at a church jumble sale and is eager to try it out. He invites Miss Flood, Gerald, Hilary and Jamie for a murder mystery evening. Zoë is feeling a bit under the weather but the evening goes ahead. It is all going well and everyone is really getting into the game and the tension builds until the final round when Hilary ruins everything by telling everyone she's the murderer. After the anti-climax ending everyone goes home. Zoë then feels very ill and thinks there is a problem with her pregnancy. Alec takes her into hospital where she suffers a miscarriage.
Further details
Zoë is trying to get on with her life after the miscarriage but is finding it hard to, with everyone, including Alec, being continually upset. Alec takes in a stray dog called Arnold in the hope of cheering Zoë up but Zoë refuses to get dragged into it.
Eventually Alec and Zoë have a proper heart to heart, which causes Zoë to break down and cry. She and Alec decide to go away for a few days to try and put it behind them. Hilary meanwhile is attempting to reconcile with Derek whilst Miss Flood announces she is engaged.
