Hilary and Anthony have split up, much to Miss Flood's relief. Alec and Zoë meanwhile are at odds when Alec seems to take exception to her working with a gay colleague. Alec invites his new client, TV's Inspector Dangerfield round for drinks. When Zoë asks if she can ask her colleague as well, Alec says "maybe next time" making Zoë even more convinced Alec is anti gay.

Alec decides to prove Zoë wrong by asking her colleague round after all, only to find that he's already coming as Inspector Dangerfield's partner! Alec smells a rat and decides to prove a point to Zoë once and for all, he may not go on gay rallies but he is not anti gay.

Meanwhile Miss Flood is nervous about meeting Gerald's daughters. Hilary takes her under her wing to help prepare her.
