Series 1, Episode 5 - They Didn't Believe Me

Alec tells Zoë that he and Jamie are going to Simone's for a birthday tea on Sunday and he invites her to join them.

Further details

Alec has turned 54. He gets a phone call from one of the Cray twins saying he'll be round later with a film and a take away (Jamie of course) and he meets Zoë for lunch. Zoë presents him with a man made out of sugar lumps telling him it's a Sugar Daddy.

Alec tells Zoë that he and Jamie are going to Simone's for a birthday tea on Sunday and he invites her to join them. Zoë is nervous at the prospect but agrees. That night as he and Jamie have their take away Alec tells him about him and Zoë. Jamie is a little shocked that his father is dating a woman not much older than he is but declares that if Alec is happy then its ok by him, he's rather more worried about what Simone will think; "she believes in separate honeymoons" he points out!

Sunday arrives and Alec, Zoë and Jamie arrive at the vicarage where Zoë is introduced to Simone and Alec's two grandchildren. Simone seems quite amiable at first when meeting Zoë but they soon learn that this is because she thinks Zoë is with Jamie. When she learns that she is in fact with Alec she is not at all pleased and virtually accuses Zoë of being a gold digger. Alec and Zoë head outside and decide that its going to be tough to convince some people of their relationship but given time people will have no choice to accept it.
