Alex Cameron is a freelance writer working for a whimsical newspaper column, working from home while his wife, Lizzie, has been forced to retire as headmistress of the town's secondary school and finds time too freely available.
Their surprisingly young children hang around home an awful lot even thought they are supposed to have moved out. Nick is a foolish idiot; Sarah stupid; and Harry, a devious, crooked Labour politician. Not forgetting Dexter the dog.
