In their middle age, Daniel and Martha Ford, despite having a nice home and family, are not seeing eye to eye. At Martha's suggestion they decide to part on good terms, but all does not go to plan. People and things - their kids, Gina and Matthew, Daniel's mum and even the dog - become obstacles and the pair have difficulty going their separate ways.
By the time of the second series, Daniel and Martha have finally divorced. They now set out to make new lives for themselves, all the while trying to keep things amicable and attempting to hold the family together. Daniel has a new girlfriend, Freda.
