Belinda Braithwaite and David Braithwaite enjoy a rather unconventional marriage.
Belinda works full-time as an outspoken but successful and respected local bank manager. David is a "stay-at-home-dad"; an occasional inventor who takes care of the household, shares coffee mornings and innuendos with flirty neighbour Louise, and fills the rest of his time by volunteering at the Citizens Advice Bureau, and for Meals on Wheels.
Tired of the rat race and with their children now away at university, Belinda decides she fancies a change. She wants to quit her exhausting job and fulfil the traditional simple housewife role, which means David going back to work. Unfortunately, he has other ideas. Not keen at all on the prospect of returning to the world of regular full-time employment, he does everything he can to persuade Belinda to continue wearing the trousers - or at least keep bringing home the bacon!
As the couple face the realities of their situation - not least the chances of David finding employment after a decade out of the job market - each is forced to think about their position and what they'd really like to do.
