Further details
Maurice is rattled when Barbara befriends blue-blooded widower Peter Rackham, chairman of the golf club.
At the annual golf dinner and dance, Peter comments on Barbara's Aubrey bracelet and asks Maurice where he got it. Barbara tells a romantic anecdote, but Maurice falters. It becomes clear that Maurice stole the bracelet and Rackham's interest in it is disconcerting.
As they are leaving the dance, Syd bumps into a waitress, Janet, who it turns out was his first love. Sparks fly and the couple reminisce about old times. Maurice berates Syd for his romantic optimism and says that their love isn't genuine. But Syd remains on cloud nine and it's not long before he and Janet are acting like love-sick teenagers.
Maurice voices his concerns for the welfare of the gang to Hedley - when Syd is in love he goes off the rails, professionally.
Barbara's bracelet is stolen and Maurice is quick to blame Rackham. Barbara refuses to believe it and they row, resulting in Maurice forbidding her from seeing Rackham again. Barbara is furious, and when he doesn't relent, she kicks him out of the flat.
Maurice is convinced that if he gets the bracelet back, he'll get Barbara back, too. So, the gang breaks into Rackham's house in order to retrieve the bracelet. But things don't go according to plan...
