Three generations living under the same roof bring out all the problems of the generation gap - and no-one more forcibly than to Eddie Cropper, the man in the middle.
Eddie, nineteen years married to Doreen, watches with increasing confusion the antics of his teen-age children - Edward (concerned with political agitation) and Christine (concerned with boys). But perhaps his biggest problem is his own father, Ted, who is more that sixty, but refuses, so it seems to Eddie, to grow up. And throughout it all there is only one thing that Eddie is really sure of - everyone is having a better time than he is.
