Series 1 (2012)

Hebburn tells the story of the Pearson family and their son, Jack, who, having left his home town for the bright lights and glamour of Manchester, has secretly married a middle class Jewish girl, Sarah, in a spontaneous wedding ceremony in Vegas. A journalist and budding author, Jack's got plenty on his mind, but Sarah's most anxious about his family liking her. However, when a big book deal falls through and Jack's dad Joe is forced to retire with heart trouble, the young couple are forced to move into the family home: and then Sarah finds she is pregnant.

Series 2 (2013)

The Pearson family are dealing with the aftermath of Joe's stroke. Pauline, having to find a way to support the family, throws herself into her first proper job in years as an estate agent. Jack and Sarah have a baby on the way and, as the family house is becoming increasingly overcrowded, they are desperate to move into their own place. Jack is still working hard to secure a book deal. So, when a publisher inadvertently gets hold of his private journal, he is faced with a huge dilemma as the journal doesn't show the pregnant Sarah in a particularly good light. But can he resist the opportunity of making some much needed cash, not to mention the chance of becoming a published author? And more importantly, will Sarah find out? Jack's sister Vicki is also inspired to make a better life for herself, but singing boyfriend Gervaise isn't so sure. Meanwhile, after being forced to move out of the retirement home for a certain indiscretion, Gran Dot has attracted a gentleman admirer - but of course she can't help playing hard to get.
