Production has begun on the second series of Daddy Issues, the sitcom starring Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey.

The comedy, which launched in August, follows the story of what happens after hedonistic 24-year-old Gemma discovers she is pregnant after a one-night stand and has no choice but to turn to her useless father, Malcolm, for support.

The show, written by Danielle Ward, launched to 2 million, with an average audience across the series of 1.6 million (over 28 days), making it the biggest comedy series for BBC Three since the channel's relaunch as a broadcast channel. The show was also one of the six formats nominated in the Best New TV Sitcom in the annual fan-voted Comedy.co.uk Awards 2024, the winner of which will be announced in February.

Recapping the format, the BBC explains: "From dating disasters and failed romances through to toxic friendships and messy family dynamics, the show is a big-hearted story about a father and daughter, and the reality of facing up to parenthood - at any stage of life.

"Set in Stockport the first series saw Gemma (Aimee Lou Wood) discover she's pregnant after a random hook-up. With her sister Catherine (Sharon Rooney) in prison and her mum Davina travelling around the world to find herself, Gemma had no choice but to turn to her hapless father Malcolm (David Morrissey) for support. The end of the series saw Gemma going into labour at Rita's (Sarah Hadland) salon, then giving birth to baby Sadie with friends Cherry (Taj Atwal) and Xander (Arian Nik) by her side. Meanwhile Malcolm rushed to make it to the hospital in time, with toxic friend Derek (David Fynn) in tow."

Series 2 of Daddy Issues will be shown on BBC Three later in 2025. Series 1 is on iPlayer.
