Mike Bubbins and Leroy Brito are releasing their debut stand-up specials on the BBC this Christmas.

Mammoth creator and star Bubbins has recorded an hour-long version of his 2023 touring show Throwback, which will air on BBC One Wales on 27th December and be available on BBC iPlayer.

Recorded at the New Theatre in Cardiff in October, Throwback is billed as "an hour of really funny stories, pretty impressive characterisations, a bit of nostalgia about the good old days, a bit of optimism about the good new days and Mike generally having a laugh about life and not taking himself, or anything else, too seriously."

However, it carries the disclaimer that "he may, at some point in the show, get very annoyed at berks, whether in the past, the present or the future. Very annoyed."

Leroy Brito

Meanwhile, Brito's previously announced debut special has been given the name Live In Cardiff and airs on BBC One Wales on 17th December. It will also be available on iPlayer.

A 30-minute version of the Cardiff native's first live tour, Leroy!!!, which began in Pontardulais and ended in New York, the special was recorded at the Richard Burton Theatre at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and was directed by fellow Welsh comic Ignacio Lopez.

It promises insights into Brito's life, from growing up in Tiger Bay and becoming a teenage father to his "soft new life" in Penarth ("The Beverly Hills of Wales"), navigating marriage and the awkwardness of a vasectomy.

"I'm so excited to be bringing my debut stand up show to the BBC, audiences across Wales will know me but I'm seeing Live In Cardiff as my introduction to the rest of the UK" Brito said. "I've got a unique life story and cannot wait to share it."

Man-out-of-time sitcom Mammoth is returning to BBC Two and BBC One Wales next year with an expanded series of nine episodes. Bubbins will also appear alongside Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth in BBC Two crime comedy drama Death Valley, playing Tony, an overly friendly police desk sergeant.

Meanwhile, BBC Scotland will air Danny Bhoy's previously released special Mr Priority on 11th December and Mark Nelson Live on 22nd December, with both also available on iPlayer.
