Peter Serafinowicz and Robert Popper have discussed reviving their breakout television series, Look Around You.

Serafinowicz revealed the news as he joins the cast of the BBC's Motherland spin-off, Amandaland.

Running for two series on ]BBC Two from 2002 to 2005, Look Around You spoofed popular science television programmes such as Tomorrow's World. Created by Serafinowicz and Friday Night Dinner's Popper, the pair starred in the BAFTA-nominated series alongside Olivia Colman and Josie d'Arby.

Although Serafinowicz has acknowledged the difficulty in tempting Colman back to the comedy since she's become an in-demand Oscar winner, he told Richard Herring on his RHLSTP podcast that they were contemplating bringing the technology parody back, possibly as a film or social media pastiche.

"I've been talking to Robert Popper recently, we've always wanted to do a movie of Look Around You. Or rather, Look Around You: The Motion Picture" he disclosed.

"But I don't know what it would be. So if anyone's got any ideas? ... Another series? TikTok and these things ... what is entertainment now? It's kind of similar to television a bit. But I love that, because I'm an entertainer. You've got to move with the times."

Serafinowicz also told Herring that he's joined Amandaland, the forthcoming BBC One sitcom written by his sister, Helen Serafinowicz, with Holly Walsh and Barunka O'Shaughnessy.

Starring Lucy Punch as her Motherland character Amanda, with Joanna Lumley and Philippa Dunne also reprising their roles from the original series as Felicity, Amanda's waspish mother and the put-upon but indomitable Anne, Serafinowicz plays Amanda's new South African boyfriend.

"We're filming it at the moment" the comic and impressionist explained. "It's great, I'm really loving it. Although they have been a little bit unhappy with my South African accent. So I've had a lot of voice coaching. Yah, yah, yah."

Serafinowicz also collaborates with his brother, James, in writing and creating projects for his most enduring character, hapless businessman Brian Butterfield.

He revealed that the pair are planning to make "Brian Butterfield Christmas Crackers. With little novelties in them like a plaster!"

He added that he'd also: "love to do a quiz show with an audience every week. I've got a couple of game shows I'm developing."

Look Around You

Look Around You is the BAFTA-nominated comedy series based on the unforgettable Open University and Television for Schools and Colleges programmes of the 1970's.

Look Around You 2

Look Around You 2

Taking inspiration from the golden era of late Seventies and early Eighties television, Look Around You looks at the very latest developments in science and technology in one of the most consistently funny parodies you're ever likely to see.

This brilliantly original second series has the same well-observed hilarious brand of humour as the first BAFTA nominated series and is presented by the very talented Jack Morgan (Robert Popper), Peter Packard (Peter Serafinowicz), Pam Bachelor (Olivia Colman) and Pealy Maghti (Josie D'Arby). In a blaze of 1980s big hair, sideburns, ra-ra skirts and jumpsuits, this series also features cameos from some of the UK's finest comedy performers including Harry Enfield, Matt Lucas, Simon Pegg and Sarah Alexander.

Each episode the team considers the future of music, health, sport, music, food and computers - much as they did in the original Tomorrow's World series. Each week they are joined by guests, inventors and science specialists, looking at different inventions and testing out the latest technology.

The series culminates in a live final of the 'Look Around You Invention Of The Year Award' presented by HRH Sir Prince Charles. But with an excited live studio audience, a nervous group of contestants and one rather difficult and unpredictable guest, can the Look Around You team manage to keep everything going all right on the night?
